Uptown Magazine, selected former Falcons player Michael Vick to cover their October/November 2011 issue.
The Philadelphia Eagles $100 million dollar man discusses signing with his new team, playing the game of football, the reaction from fans when he returned to play against the Atlanta Falcons and his road to redemption.
He took one of the hardest hits of the season before he played against Atlanta this past September. For Vick, it may have been good to be home, but they lost the game, 35-31. If he’s going to be effective and reach the next level of his game, the Eagles will have to get their defensive line to work harder at covering him. Period.

On signing with the Philadelphia Eagles…
I never thought this day would come. [Two years ago], I was happy just to be on a team. When I was in prison, I prayed for another opportunity. And when I signed with the Eagles, that opportunity had come. I was ecstatic at that point, and I’m even happier now.
On taking precautions during the game…
I play the game the way I know how to play it. You have to take precautions, but this is what I love to do. I want to be there for my team and do what I have to do as a quarterback to be successful.
On the fans reaction when he returned to play the Falcons as an Eagle…
It was awesome. When I was running out onto the field I was listening to see what the reaction was going to be, I was very pleased. I really didn’t expect that reaction, but I was very thankful.
Where he is and where he wants to go…
I am determined to become a better student of the game and I knew I had to work at it. I was young when I was in Atlanta. I’m older now. I’ve been through a lot and I think I’ve matured. I had some good years there, but I’m just so thankful to be in Philadelphia right now. I could not have landed in a better city. This is my home. This is where I want to be, and I take this opportunity seriously.

New Music :: Mary J. Blige's "Mr. Wrong" feat. Drake & "Why?" feat. Rick Ross
If the singles that have hit the internet are any indication of what we can expect from the Queen of Hip Hop Soul’s tenth studio album, My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1), Mary J. Blige is returning to her roots by employing cameos from some of the hottest rappers in the game.
Yesterday, Queen Mary headed to Teen Nick’s Halo Awards to perform, but not before her single Mr. Wrong, which features a cameo from Drake hit the airwaves on Angie Martinez’s, Hot 97 radio show.
This morning, it was surprising to learn that DJ Clue also debuted another single from Mary’s upcoming album. Maybach Music’s King, the Boss Rick Ross, who’s currently recovering from multiple strokes, adds his 16 bars to Why?

After a pushed back world premiere, today 106 and Park, dropped Beyoncé’s official visual for Party, the single that now features Roc-Nation newbie, J. Cole.
Directed by Beyoncé, the official visual for the Kanye West produced track was shot in New Jersey this past August and is packed with vivid, colorful images. I’ve had an appreciation for pinwheels since childhood! LOL!!
So who does Beyoncé bring to her back yard BBQ/block party? We see Auntie-to-be Solange Knowles made it to the party along with former Destiny’s Child band mate, Kelly Rowland…
…and J. Cole stands in for Andre 3000 on the remixed single and video. Politics.
Did you know Day 26, the boy band that we were introduced to through Diddy’s popular reality show Makin’ the Band, is making a comeback? No longer with Bad Boy, the R&B group comprised of the collective voices that belong to Robert, Brian, Willie, and Michael, minus original member, Qwanell “Anthony Q” Mosley, has landed with Atlantic Records.
Today they released the melodic, Made Love Lately. It’s so remnant of the sound from yesteryear that we’ve grown to love. On the Jim Beanz produced track with a grown and sexy bump, Day 26 sings in harmonies that make you think of Jodeci or Dru Hill.
"I just began to experiment you, baby I think I found the formula. There so much energy I feel the chemistry between us. From your reaction I see the passion, this whole experience is something new. Long as I serve my purpose wanna be of service to you…."
Day 26 is returning to the same formula that catapulted them to the limelight and have also released the trailer for their web series, aptly titled A New Day.
Official Visual :: Monica's "Until It's Gone" feat. Brian White and Malinda Williams
R&B’s one and only ‘Miss Thang’ released the official visual for her single Until It’s Gone starring Brian White and Malinda Williams.
In an emotional video that aligns with the lyrics of the song, currently increasing spins on urban radio, the theme of the video forces the viewer to take into account the consequences of cheating and distractions as well as what really matters in life…
Until It’s Gone is from Monica’s upcoming album, New Life, which is slated to hit shelves later this year; the video debuted on 106 & Park yesterday.
Monica’s earlier single, Anything (To Find You), which features Rick Ross and Missy Elliot is also expected to be featured on her new album.

Glamour Girl Kelly Rowland Shows Off X-Factor Fashions!
X-Factor judge, Kelly Rowland, gave Glamour UK an exclusive look at the fashion choices she’s made for her appearances on the UK television show.
In designer garments from Falguni & Shane, Azzedine Alaia, Julien MacDonald and Todd Lynn among others, for each outfit, Kelly gives an inside look into how she decided what to wear!
In this spectacular Roberto Cavalli that she wore to open the season, Kelly shares, “…as soon as the zip was done up, I knew it was the one. I felt like a Princess! I felt extremely comfortable and oh-so-sexy. The embellishment was just divine. Mr Cavalli sure knows how to make a girl feel absolutely sexy because the slit was in the most perfect place and it hugged my body just right. Thank you Mr Cavalli. x”
While she confesses that many of the dresses were selected at the last minute, Kelly’s choices were based on her admiration of the designer’s work or just sheer love for the piece.
Rowland wears it well, some of the dresses were tailored to fit her body perfectly…
…like this hot leather mini dress by Topshop…
"After looking at rails and rails of dresses, I just absolutely loved this leather one. I took it home with me and had it altered slightly (to fit my body perfectly) and although it was super fab after the alteration, I still felt that there was something missing, a belt. A few days later I went to Harvey Nichols with my stylists and we found a fab Azzedine Alaia belt which worked perfectly with the dress. When it all came together on Saturday night, I loved it even more! :)"

Music Monday :: Mateo's "Say Its So" feat. Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz
Morehouse man, Mateo is preparing to release another collaborative EP with multi-Grammy Award winning producer Kerry “Krucial” Brothers. His earlier offering, Love & Stadiums, gave birth to one of my favorite collaborations with Goapele and Ab Liva, Please Don’t Shoot Me Down.
The 24-year old King is back with his first studio release and another collaboration, this time featuring Alicia Keys and her hubby, Swizz Beatz.
Brothers got Keys to lay her vocals on the track during a recent studio session. Check out Mateo’s new single Say Its So below…
Since the Love & Stadiums release, Mateo has been doing his thing. The other day, he and Dawn Richard, who’s also in pursuit of her solo career, took a break from Diddy’s Dirty Money to wow the crowd with Mateo in California at the famed Roxy Theater.

Nick Cannon & Mariah Carey Reveal Twins "Roc & Roe" on 20/20 + DemBabies.com Helps the Fresh Air Fund!
After months of waiting to see Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey’s boy and girl twins aka “Dem Babies” the couple appeared on 20/20 to talk about marriage, their relationship and parenting.
When Nick appeared on The Talk a few weeks ago, he shared that Mariah had the twins by c-section and the live version of Fantasy played for their entrance into the world. Tonight Mariah said, “They came into the world to a live version, and the only reason I wanted it to be the live version is because I wanted them to hear the applause upon entering the world.” More here.
Although she is blessed to have the twins she recognizes that pregnancy and giving birth is no small matter and takes a toll on a woman’s body, “I don’t think I understood the enormity and the magnitude of what it really does to your body. Carrying two babies. Unless somebody’s been through it, it’s difficult to understand what I went through, because my pregnancy was very unique in terms of what happened to me.” She continued, “I had serious back problems,” she said. “I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to walk properly again. It was a huge strain.”

As word hits the net that Beyoncé will premiere the “Official Visual” for her single Party on BETs 106 & Park this coming Tuesday, October 25, a remix of the song featuring Roc Nation’s J. Cole makes its way to the surface as well!
On the album, 4, Party features half of the Outkast duo, Andre 3000. I understand he will not make a cameo appearance in the video, he’s being replaced with J. Cole! Based on photos that were taken at the shoot in August, we know Bey’s former Destiny’s Child member and sister friend, Kelly Rowland is featured.
Kanye West hasn’t been removed the track, his voice is still ever-present. G.O.O.D. Music! One of my favorite singles from her newest album…
Listening to this makes me want to Party!
"Therefore I like to thank God and Ice Cube for Friday, ‘cause La da di…." What?!

I’m not sure who has next out of Roc Nation’s camp, but I can tell you who’s got now and that would be Bridget Kelly.
Earlier today, the Thinkin’ About Forever, songstress released her new EP, Every Girl, and I seriously can not believe it’s being given away for free $.99, but it is…

Syleena Johnson & Tweet's "Angry Girl" [Live Performance Footage] + "Diary of a Diva!"
Syleena Johnson and our favorite Southern Hummingbird, Tweet, recently teamed up at the CRC Recording Studios to record this live, acoustic version of Angry Girl, the second single from Johnson’s fifth studio album, Chapter V: Underrated.
If you enjoy the clip below, you’ll be pleased to know that we’ll get to see more of Johnson and Tweet together on-screen in the near future. As The Queen’s Castle reported back in May, Syleena and Tweet will join Angie Stone, Faith Evans, Monifah, Lelee of SWV and Nicci Gilbert on the new reality show, Diary of a Diva!
Gilbert has been flexing her production muscles with her company Think Factory Productions, the Diary of a Diva creator, tells Billboard’s The Juice ”It’s like an ‘R&B Housewives’ meets ‘Unsung.’” Last year around this time, The Queen’s Castle attended the International Black Film Festival of Nashville’s screening of her film, Soul Kittens Cabaret, which featured Evans and Monifah who are also part of the Diary of a Diva cast.
If you’re hesitant about seeing our favorite R&B divas in a reality show format, put those feelings aside, Syleena tells SoulTrain.com ”The good news is that you’re dealing with a group of women who have careers and lives and focus, where we don’t really have time to sit around and argue. So if there’s drama, which I’m sure there will be, there’s definitely going to be resolutions, you’re going to be able to see resolutions as well.”
Where we’ll get to see Diary of a Diva is still being determined, but the show is slated for release January 2012.
Will you be watching Diary of a Diva? Which one of your favorite R&B divas should be added to the cast?!
Creative producer Brandon Littlejohn and photographer, Rod Gailes have collaborated to develop a four part photo-essay that presents a “commentary on Black American life and patriotism.”
The first installment, a beautiful full color pictorial, Island in the Sun, depicts gorgeous images of Black Americana circa 1950.
With wardrobe design by Jamari Walker and make-up by Dominique Jenelle, models Tope Alabi, Desmond Amofah, Ngozi Assata, Tradell Hawkins, Stephanie Kyereme, Titilayo Mutushi and Robert Vance take us to a period of Black American life not often remembered.
The layout’s creative producer, Littlejohn, explains the significance of the beach setting, “Beaches are visually associated with affluence in urban areas because of Black peopleâs limited access. I wanted to capture Black young women and men in these spaces, because after all, this was a reality for Black people during this time.
According to Taylor N. Lewis, “The ‘Black Americana’ series encourages African Americans to challenge societal messages about Blackness, while aspiring to higher levels of art and education on their own terms. Creating opportunities in the creative industry via a collective effort and artistically challenging the way African Americans have been conditioned to see themselves are two main goals of the âBlack Americanaâ series.”
