Retired boxing champ, Laila Ali appeared on Good Morning America to chat with Robin Roberts about her children, her new ABC show Everyday Health and her efforts to raise awareness about kidney disease, a preventable ailment that affects more than 31 million Americans.
Following in the footsteps of her boxing legend father, Muhammad Ali, Laila stepped away from the ring with an undefeated boxing record in 2007 and other than a few cameo appearances, we last saw her on Dancing with the Stars.
A married mother of two, Laila and her husband, Curtis, have a 3-year-old and a six month old, which she says, “It’s a lot of work, you know. And lately I’ve been doing a lot of complaining and I have to remind myself like, ‘Come on, champ. You’re the champ now!’”
In addition to raising her children, she works with the American Kidney Fund, and her new ABC show, Everyday Health, which broadcasts on Saturdays (check your local listings), will give her a great platform to continue her work.

Record-breaking artist, Adele released the official visuals for Someone Like You, the emotional closing track from her soulful album 21.
This track resonates on so many levels. Adele’s emotional confession to her lover who has moved on to find his own happiness is palpable, lifting off the track. The black and white imagery, panning and scenery help to convey the vulnerability apparent in her lyrics.
Filmed in Paris and directed by Jake Nava, Someone Like You is one of my favorite tracks from her album…

In an article written by Emil Wilbekin, he provides a landscape for how far Mary’s progressed through her career by sharing his personal encounters with her over the years, “Finally she spoke. In a heavy New York accent, Blige ordered her lunch: ‘I’ll have the… scrimp scampi,’ she said assuredly. It was then that I officially fell in love. She was confident and tough — but vulnerable, and visibly (and endearingly) rough around the edges.”
Set to appear as Justice Charlier in Rock of Ages, about the film Blige says, “”All I can say is I had a blast. Tom Cruise was always just so helpful and constantly giving. Just watching him and Catherine Zeta-Jones transform into their characters, it was like, OMG these people are incredible!”
Blige is also gearing up for her role as Nina Simone in the biopic about her life, she confesses, “Nina was different from me in a lot of ways. She was courageous and confident. I’m just growing into that, but she was like that ever since she was a little girl — she was never afraid during a period when there was so much racism. She was always bold. I have a lot to draw from — all the trials and tribulations and battles. But my God, I hope I can do the work and pull it off.”

Last night, President Barack Obama spoke at the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Dinner in Washington, D.C. During his speech he spoke about his jobs act, the unemployment rate, the nation’s tax burden and education along with other high-profile, hot button, topics that will matter to voters in the upcoming election.
In the shadow of Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West’s “Black Poverty Tour” and among criticism from well-known, long-standing members of the Congressional Black Caucus, like Rep. Maxine Waters who has been publicly vocal about what she sees as Obama’s lack of attention toward the “unconscionable” unemployment rate in the black community, Obama delivered a fiery address where he urged Black Americans to “march with me, and press on. Stop complaining, stop grumbling, stop crying. We are going to press on. We’ve got work to do.”

Musiq Soulchild’s new unreleased cut was produced by Dre and Vidal, and there’s no chance the ladies will Run & Hide from this new one.
Still enjoying the success of his most recent album, Musiq in the Magiq, this song will have you clapping along as Soulchild tells his women there’s no way to run and hide from the chemistry they share.
Musiq keeps on delivering a respectful, grown and sexy sound, which is so refreshing in today’s musical landscape.
There’s something about that Philly sound, and with a name like ‘Musiq’ he can’t go wrong…

Guinness World Records 2012 :: Adele, Willow Smith, Rihanna, Beyonce and Lil' Wayne Make the Books!
Every year I’m amazed by the people spotlighted in the Guinness World Records books, and this year is no different. First published in 1955, the Guinness Book of World Records has brought some of the most unique individuals around the world into the public eye!
This year among the World Record holders are the names of some of your favorite celebrities, including Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Lil’ Wayne and Willow Smith, who made the 2012 list for being the “Youngest Top 20 Transatlantic Star” at 10 years old.
One of my favorite imports from overseas, Adele, achieved ‘Triple World Success,’ by breaking The Beatles 1963 record as “the first female to have two singles and two albums in UK Top 5 simultaneously.” Her album, 21, also broke Madonna’s 1991 record, “for Most consecutive weeks with UK No. 1 album (solo female)” and the “Most cumulative weeks with UK No. 1 album.” Her sophomore effort, 21, spent 18 weeks at No. 1, no jinx applied.
As The Queen’s Castle previously reported, Beyoncé broke Twitter records, “for most related Tweets per second” when she made her baby announcement at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. Rihanna made the books for the “Most U.S. No. 1 singles in consecutive years (2007 - 2011) by a Female” since releasing Rude Boy, Love the Way You Lie, What’s My Name? and Only Girl (in the world). Lil’ Wayne is also listed in the books for the “Most U.S. Hot 100 hits by a rap artist.” Weezy F. Baby has been putting in work, between 1999 and 2010, he released 64 hits; “Young Mulah Baby!” (Weezy voice) LOL!
It’s no small feat to break records. Among all of the record holders, my favorite ‘everyday people’ shout-out goes to Angola’s Francisco Domingo Joaquim “Chiquinho,” who has the World’s Widest Mouth at 6.69 inches; Chanel Tapper who has the World’s Longest Female Tongue at an astounding 3.8 inches from tip to top lip; Aevin Dugas made sisters world-wide raise their fists for the World’s Largest Natural Afro at 4 feet 4 inches; and last but not least, Chris ‘The Dutchess’ Walton, who has the World’s Longest Fingernails, the longest measuring at 10 feet and 2 inches.

Queen of Hip Hop Soul Mary J. Blige Sets the Record Straight and Covers Ebony Magazine!
I know I’m not alone when I say, the Queen of Hip Hop Soul has been playing on the soundtrack of my life since she released What’s the 411. Through trials and tribulations we’ve grown with Mary, and from afar have seen her become triumphant.
Blige covers the October issue of Ebony Magazine, and according to the byline, she’s setting the record straight about rumors, her demons and her soul mate Kendu!
Ebony’s interview with Mary occurred less than 24 hours after Amy Winehouse’s death. Reflecting on her own battle with addiction, Mary says, “When I got the text about Amy, I was lying down on the bed, I got up and read the message about her death and just lay back down again. I kept getting up and laying back down for some reason. I’d always wanted to work with Amy, so I just couldn’t believe it really. And then it hit me—that could have been me. That really could have been me!”
Hey there! To be honest, the fine doesn't matter to me. What I find surprising is how often american people trash their own icons. Like or not, Serena Williams is the BEST male or female athlete USA has. And instead of being greatful and support her till the end of her career (not too far away) they're always complaining about her. Serena is fierce, passionate and brave and thanks to that she has won 13 mayors during the last decade.
Serena is fierce, passionate and brave and thanks to that she has won 13 mayors during the last decade.
I agree with you there, just hope her tennis legacy is not tainted by her outbursts. She’s not alone though, many of us have lost it before…
