Since he’s hit the scene, Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson has been able to diversify his brand beyond rap, into business ventures which include Vitamin Water, headphones and now, a semi-autobiographical book. In the pages of Jet, 50 Cent, ‘Rap’s Renaissance Man’ is talking about characters in his new book, 50 Cent: Playground: The Mostly True Story of a Reformed Bully and his energy drink, Street King along with efforts to end world hunger.

About his book and main character, Butterball…
“I was [a bully] at different points during my childhood, I was dealing with my emotions the wrong way. From a child’s perspective, you don’t understand. As an adult, you get that’s not the way to deal with things.”

According to 50, “It’s for everyone.”

About the energy drink Street King and ending world hunger…
“SK (Street Kings) is the biggest project I’ve been involved with so far, so it’s exciting for me. Every purchase allows someone to be fed through the U.N. World Food Programme. I recently spoke at the United Nations and had a chance to meet Archbishop Desmond Tutu and other people who want to make the world a better place. I was just proud to be in their company.”

Entertainment Weekly released the first three chapters of the Playground earlier this month, you can read that here. To read 50 Cent’s introduction from the book…

50’s new book Playground is due in stores on November 1, this is his introduction:

I’ll be the first to admit that not everything I’ve done in my life has been role-model material. I’ve been on the wrong side of the law. I’ve been in violent situations. I’vealso been a bully. I know how a person gets to be like that. That’s why I wanted to tell this story: to show a kid who has become a bully—how and why that happened, and whether or not he can move past it.

Writing Playground was a personal journey for me.There’s a lot of me in Butterball. I drew on events that happened in my childhood and adolescence as well as things I saw around me. I also tapped into some of the feelings I remember having at that age—feelings aboutmy family, feelings about my future, feelings about other kids on the playground.Living life on the edge has taught me a lot, like the fact that being mentally strong will get you ahead in life. But being a bully won’t get you anywhere. Some kids don’t figure that out until it’s too late. Does Butterball? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
