Modelland by Tyra Banks
I remember when Tyra finished writing Modelland.

Her smile beamed from ear to ear when she was done.
If there was a photo of ‘fulfilled joy,’ it’s likely that picture would accompany the definition. I’m sure I mirrored her smile a few times last year:
When I quit my job to focus on TheQueensCastle.net full-time
When I successfully moved the website from Tumblr to WordPress
When I completed my MBA in October
When I interviewed people whose work I’ve admired for years, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Lalah Hathaway, Golden Brooks and Bill Duke to name a few…
and when the autographed copy of Modelland arrived at my home.
Because of the respect I have for Tyra’s hustle, for me it served as another confirmation that ALL of the awesome life experiences I was honored to have and worked for in 2011, are filled with even more promise in 2012.
I’m in expecation of great things during the coming year! I hope you are too…

The Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, was the sole performer for the opening of the Fillmore in Silver Springs, Maryland on Thursday, September 15. No opening act, no announcer, just MJB and her fans who sang hit after hit as she went through her classic discography.

According to our friend Delonte’ Briggs of the DC Examiner, not only did Mary perform her new single 25/8 from her upcoming album, My Life II: The Journey Continues, but she also covered Anita Baker’s, You Bring Me Joy before singing My Life, You Gotta Believe, Never Wanna Live Without You, I Love You, and Be Happy for a sold out crowd.

MTV recently caught up with Mary J. Blige at the McDonald’s 365 Black Awards where she was being honored for her work with FFAWN during the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.

NinaAccording to Blige, My Life: The Journey Continues, which is scheduled to release on October 4 has a variety of music, “ballads, mid-tempos, up-tempos, there’s love songs, there’s pain songs, there’s workout songs, there’s all kinds of stuff. The Queen’s Castle Salutes — Mary J. Blige (@MaryJBlige) dropped her sophomore album, My Life, the year I entered college. Do you remember, November 1994? Me and my girls would play it from beginning to end, and hit play again or just kept the album on repeat. It was effortlessly classic, “I’m the Only Woman,” “I Never Wanna Live Without You,” “Be With You,” “Don’t Go,” it was evident then and now that Mary just wanted to “Be Happy.”
Over the years, Mary’s reign as the Queen of Hip Hop Soul has created space in her kingdom for acting, philanthropy and now, history maker. The Home Shopping Network (HSN) is reporting that in six hours of air time with their exclusive launch of Mary’s new perfume, My Life, they sold more than 60,000 units of the fragrance, created by Carol’s Daughter. It is the first celebrity fragrance for the company, where Mary along with Jay-Z, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Steve Stoute are investors.
Let’s do the math, Mary sold 60,000 units of My Life in six hours; that’s 10,000 bottles an hour, close to 167 bottles a minute, and almost three bottles every second. What else you know pushing like that? Never mind. Fact is, she obliterated previous fragrance sale records all to benefit the foundation she and Steve Stoute founded, the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now, Inc. (FFAWN). For every bottle of My Life sold, HSN will donate $1 to benefit the FFAWN foundation. The funds raised will help FFAWN deliver programs that empower women to reach their full potential.
The Queen’s Castle is honored to Salute Queen Mary J. Blige! Her mission to empower women is commendable and her music will always be a part of our life’s soundtrack.
