VIBE Magazine Celebrates the Life of Aaliyah Dana Haughton
Vibe Magazine recently paired The First Lady of New York, Lala Vasquez-Anthony and Tika Sumpter from BETs The Game to channel old school movie bandits Thelma & Louise!
Fitted in designer fashions from Louis Vuitton, Lia Sophia and Mezi, these Queens were dressed in all black like the omen!
The full ‘Thelma & Louise’ inspired fashion spread appears in the 2011 October/November issue of Vibe Magazine featuring Lil’ Wayne on the cover. Lala and Tika are working it in this shoot!
In the behind-the-scenes video both Tika and Lala talk about the shoot and what they love about the film they’re portraying…
In the pictorial, Simmons is working designer items from Nicole Miller, Aryn K, Cynthia Rowley, YSL, Charlotte Ronson, Jimmy Choo and her “must have shoes” by Giuseppe Zanotti.
For the shoot, she was styled by Rebecca Jefferson and captured by photographer, Joaquin Palting. All of the pieces she’s wearing in the shoot are transitional to take you from summer into fall.
Angela’s no stranger to fashion, she and her sister just expanded their Pastry’s shoe line to include clothing. We also know that Simmons is planning to launch her own line Angela Renee in the near future. In the most recent issue of Jet she revealed her style icons and says, “I look up to a lot of different designers. I love what Tom Ford has done. I love Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. Alexander McQueen’s work also blows me away. His designs are so amazing.”

The cover of Vibe Magazine’s Juice Issue was released earlier this week with Kelly Rowland on the cover, but in light of Amy Jade Winehouse’s passing, she will share the cover in a special honorarium to her life with words from producer Salaam Remi.
Access Hollywood is reporting that Amy left “a trove of unreleased music, but no decision has been made about whether it will be released.” Since Winehouse’s death, “sales of her music have soared. In the U.S., digital sales of her tracks have risen by 2,000 percent in the past week.”
Here’s an excerpt of Remi’s “Last Days with Amy” article
I’m in London now. I’m out here because [Amy and I] were supposed to go to a wedding today. And before I could get to her yesterday she passed. We were going to the wedding of Nick Symansky, who is the person who really found her. He found her when he was a scout at 19. And he was the manager before they got the Universal deal.
They went ahead with the wedding. All I could do was sit there and imagine how many jokes she would have been cracking with me. We were in the middle of working on the album. She finished writing the record. We just hadn’t recorded.
For the last couple of weeks we were video chatting regularly. I was just talking to Nas. Both her and Nas were born on September 14, so we were going to Barbados with all of them for her birthday. She really doesn’t look forward to her birthday, you know what I’m saying? Source
The August/September dual cover issue will hit stands on August 16.
Kelly Rowland is baring all on the front page cover of Vibe Magazine, the photo is screaming “Here I Am!” The beautiful singer released her long awaited third solo album today. Her promotional whirlwind started at NYC’s 105.1 this morning with the crew and she appeared as DJ Denise on last night’s episode of Single Ladies!
Check out a few excerpts from the interview below, the magazine hits stands August 16!
ON BEING MORE APPRECIATED IN EUROPE VS. HOME
VIBE: The last album didn’t do well in the States. It did better overseas, particularly in Europe. Do you feel more appreciated in Europe?
Kelly Rowland: No, not really. People still compare me to B over there. I said in an interview recently, ‘You know, if you guys would be a little bit more intelligent and ask me about myself we’ll have a much better interview.’ You can’t want a story from me and keep asking me about the past.
ON HER COMPLICATED RELATIONSHIP WITH MATTHEW KNOWLES
VIBE: When you walked away from that last meeting with Mathew, did you feel an “exhale” moment?
Kelly Rowland: I did, but I also felt like, ‘Oh my God, what have I done?!’ I stayed in the house for two days. I was sad. It was like a funeral. I had to deaden that situation in order to start fresh. That’s a very long time to have the same manager and the same label.
VIBE: What about your personal relationship with Mathew Knowles. Do you still talk to him?
Kelly Rowland: Mathew sent me flowers for my birthday!
VIBE: But do you talk to him?
Kelly Rowland: It’s… I respect him above anything.
As you may already know, The Queen’s Castle is Team Kelly! We wish her nothing but the greatest success with this effort!
Da Brat is showing off a softer side in her photo spread with Vibe Magazine.
In photos taken by Alex Martinez, Da Brat’s not revealing a lot of skin, but she is donning summer gear that every woman can comfortably wear, including a maxi dress, and khaki shorts with a nice flowing cream blouse.
For this layout, she was styled by Tamara Conner, her hair and makeup was done by Mara Z. This past March upon her release from prison, The Queen’s Castle was able to ask Da Brat a question through an exclusive interview with Concrete Loop, check it out here.
Da Brat probably headed to the studio just after here release because at the end of June she put out an eleven track mix tape, Life After Death; download it here and check out more photos from her beautiful Vibe Magazine layout at TheQueensCastle.net
@Ledisi Talks “Pieces of Me” Video, Her Inspiration and Working at the White House
Vibe Magazine’s Jamal Munnerlyn recently caught up with four-time Grammy nominee and beautiful soul singer, Ledisi, on the set of her video shoot for “Pieces of Me;” directed by Nzingha Stewart. It’s the first single from the album of the same name, which is scheduled for release on June 14.
When asked what her listeners should take away from this work, Ledisi replied, “I want them to hear themselves, hear that they’re not alone. The feelings of being a woman, or being a person living in this world, and just trying to be a light. Hello!”
The Queen’s Castle has love for Ledisi, more here.

Inside Tiny talks about life with T.I. behind bars, and Tia Mowry, Raekwon, Selita Ebanks, Ja Rule and Martin Lawrence are also featured. The cover was revealed last night with a special performance by B.O.B (Grand Hustle)!
"Former everything. Future everything," Smith was Editor at Large for Time, Inc., held the position of Editor-In-Chief at Vibe and Vibe Vixen Magazines, and she was Executive Editor of theRoot. As editor of Vibe, she held her ground when she cleared the air about Ciara’s nude photo shoot, after rumors of a potential lawsuit surfaced. But it was her response to a statement Robin Thicke made blasting Vibe for not placing him on the cover because he was white, that had blogs all a buzz:
After naming countless A-list celebrities that have graced the cover (including Robert Dinero, Gwen Stefani and Eminem who are white), she says “we are so flattered that Robin Thicke wants to be on the cover of Vibe and we are gonna hope that he gets to that level eventually.” Source
An award winning writer and author, her blog, TheSmithian.com, is one of the sites I look to for relevant information on politics, literature and to catch a “meaningful glance” or the “look of the hour.”
Did you know this is the second time she’s worked for Billboard? I found this earlier interview she did with the Little Pink Book, here, she shares…
